We need your help! School Fundraiser

The PTA is planning a fundraiser to help our classes offer students an education through use of technology. It is our goal to educate your children with tools that will prepare them for life in today and tomorrow's world.

We ask for your support and involvement in this effort. We understand that some parents might have concerns about bringing technology into the classroom. It is true that many children use technology for entertainment and gaming purposes only. We wish to show students the educational value of technology.

The world we live in today functions through technology, whether your children will work in the medical, scientific, educational, engineering, or business realm they will not be able to succeed if they are not technologically savvy. This generation has grown up in the recent digital wave. (Green & Hannon, 2007)
These children are using new technology to:

  • create new things in new ways,
  • learn new things in new ways,
  • communicate in new ways with new people

For our classroom there are two items which I would like to introduce this year.

1. The Smart Board: This is a cross between a regular whiteboard and a computer. It allows teachers to deliver dynamic lessons, write notes in digital ink, and save your work – all with the simple touch of a finger. To see a video of how the smart board works click here.

2. At least 2 computers with internet access and printer. These computers will be used by the students to research topics for their assignments.

Thank you for reading about our fundraiser efforts. We hope that you will get involved and show support for these efforts put forth by teachers and students at our school.

Please feel free to leave a comment as this will give your student credits in my class!

DISCLAIMER: This blog is an assignment for an educational technology course at National University. It is not a real fundraising blog.

Hi Parents!

Welcome to our class blog! This is a place where read information about what is going on in our classroom and also contribute your opinions about topics we are dealing with as a school.

Feel free to leave comments under any post, as we LOVE to hear what you as parents have to say about your child's education.

Decades of research show that when parents are involved students have:
  • Higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates
  • Better school attendance
  • Increased motivation, better self-esteem
  • Lower rates of suspension
  • Decreased use of drugs and alcohol
  • Fewer instances of violent behavior
Sounds good?  We think so!

As part of the first assignment points that your child will earn in my class please leave a comment to this post. Your child will receive 25 points for your post! Thank you very much!
